“Dr. Kumwenda is a growth-oriented economist, finance specialist, and chartered accountant (CA) (Mw) with 17 years of practical experience in Development Banking, Commercial Banking, Retail Lending Solutions, Audit, Accounting, Teaching and Corporate Finance Transactions, ranging from mergers and acquisitions (M&As), initial public offerings (IPOs), the listing of bonds on the stock exchange, raising all types of debt instruments (both Tier 1 and II capital), the acquisition of selected balance sheet assets, and complex M&A due diligence.

Currently Dr. Kumwenda is working as a Chief Finance Officer for the Malawi Agricultural Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC), a Development Finance Institution (DFI), having also worked as a Chief Finance Officer for a Commercial Bank and various Retail Lending Institutions in Malawi at an executive level. He has also worked in external audit with KPMG and Peterholdsworth & Co.

Dr. Kumwenda also serves as a non-executive director on various boards in Malawi and sits on the Technical Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM).

He holds a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Economics from the University of Malawi with focus on the Economics of Banking; he also holds a Masters Degree in Economics and a Bachelors Degree in Accountancy from the University of Malawi. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant with ACCA (UK) and a Chartered Accountant (CA) in Malawi.”
