“Mrs. Hikmet has established herself as a key leader in Ethiopia’s financial sector, demonstrating a profound impact through her various roles. As the former Director General of the Accounting and Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE), she led the nation’s adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), a critical move that bolstered Ethiopia’s financial reporting integrity and supported the maturation of its financial markets.

Her tenure at AABE and prior experience as the founding Country Director for Ethiopia at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) highlight her unwavering commitment to professional excellence, governance, and collaborative leadership. A prominent advocate for
financial transparency and good practices, Mrs.Hikmet has been instrumental in shaping Ethiopia’s financial landscape.
In addition to her contributions through AABE, she has served as a founding Board Member of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority and actively participates on various boards. Notably, she is a member of the Governance Board of the International Nonprofit Accounting Guidance (INPAG) project, which is focused on creating specialized accounting standards for nonprofit organizations.
