Biography

Richard Wangwe is the head of agricultural lending at Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, where he focuses on growing and retaining high-value agribusiness clients and designing products to encourage the adoption of agro-finance products in corporate, commercial, and smallholder farming systems that will maximize business growth and profitability targets. Previously, Mr Wangwe was the East Africa Director at KPMG in the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) that provides grants and interest free loans to businesses to implement innovative, commercially viable, high impact agribusiness and renewable energy projects in Africa and oversaw the administrative and financial management of grantees in East Africa.

Mr Wangwe has accumulated 15 years of technical expertise in the areas of finance and investment, agribusiness development, rural financial services and enterprise development, and agricultural value chain, specifically in cereals, grains, and livestock. These efforts have contributed to Mr Wangwe’ s overall goal of increasing private sector investment to upgrade agricultural value chains and simultaneously create market opportunities to increase smallholder income and improve nutrition.

Mr Wangwe holds an MBA, from the University of Salford Manchester (UK); Agriculture and Rural Project Management from University of Brad Ford; Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Makerere University; plus several short courses in Agribusiness.
