Biography

James C. Polan is Vice President for Small and Medium Enterprise Finance at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the U.S. Government’s Development Finance Institution. Mr. Polan’s career at OPIC spans over two decades, having joined OPIC in 1995 as a senior investment officer, later becoming a director of project finance and, since July 2003, serving as Vice President. Mr. Polan provided leadership on the agency’s African and Small and Medium Enterprise initiatives, and played a key role in the creation of OPIC’s Small Business Center.

Prior to OPIC, Mr. Polan was managing director of Ngami Group Limited in Gaborone, Botswana; served as chief executive officer for Healthcare Holdings (PTY) Ltd. in Gaborone; and was manager of the Projects and Property Development Divisions for the Botswana Development Corporation Limited.

Polan received a B.A. in business economics from Connecticut College and an MBA in finance from the University of London. He also attended the London School of Economics and Political Science.
