Biography

Zohrab Mawani is an executive and entrepreneur in the Energy sector who has focused most of his career on the transition to a low-carbon economy. Working with both startups and multi-nationals, Zohrab has led the development of over 1,500 MW of now operational renewable generation and 2,000 MW of HVDC transmission in development. A geologist by education, he started his career with government and utilities in Canada. Since 2002, Zohrab has been active in the development of renewable energy and transmission projects in Canada, the United States, Africa and Latin America. His experience spans many technologies including wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, biomass, HVDC transmission, battery storage and renewable fuels.

In 2012, Zohrab Mawani co-founded AEDC in order bring his experience back to his birth-country Kenya to help the country benefit from the many economic, environmental, and social benefits of renewable energy.

Zohrab Mawani is a senior executive fellow with the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) and a registered member of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO).
