Biography

“Tom Gray is the Legal Counsel for Solarcentury Africa, a market leading renewables developer who is working on a number of active solar and BESS projects in Namibia and elsewhere in Africa.

Tom’s career has been focused on advising on emerging market energy and infrastructure projects, firstly in private practice and now in house at Solarcentury Africa. He has worked with a number of governments in Africa, the Middle East and Asia as they seek to develop and procure critical infrastructure, as well as advising developers and funders on projects in sectors including energy and natural resources, transport and logistics, defence, water, waste and social housing. Tom has lived and worked in Africa, as well as the UAE and Hong Kong and joined Solarcentury Africa since moving back to the UK.

Tom is currently working on the range of projects Solarcentury Africa is developing in Namibia, which includes the development of solar plants that will trade on a merchant basis, selling energy on the Namibian MSB market, and to the SAPP. He has worked closely with Solarcentury Africa’s in-country co-developers, government stakeholders and local contractors, as well as international funders and partners, and has become familiar with the legal and commercial considerations that impact a project in Namibia and its investors.”
