Biography
Rajiv Daya is the Head of Investments at Founders Factory Africa (FFA) where he leads a team responsible for investing in and securing follow-on funding for a growing portfolio of African FinTech, HealthTech and AgriTech startups. As at January 2022, FFA has invested almost $18m in 40 seed-stage startups across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and Rajiv manages a global investor network of 250+ investors (including angels, micro-VCs, institutional VCs, family offices, impact investors and corporates) to create funding opportunities for these startups.
Prior to joining FFA, Rajiv Daya spent a decade in management consulting, investment banking and development finance roles at Accenture, Goldman Sachs and The World Bank Group, where he specialised in financial sector innovation and raised over $1 billion in capital across SSA.
Rajiv Daya has previously spoken on access to finance and African investment at events alongside Ban Ki-Moon (former UN Secretary-General), Dr. Vera Songwe (Executive Secretary: UN Economic Commission for Africa) and various public/private sector leaders. Rajiv co-authored Goldman Sachs’ “Two Decades of Freedom” report, was a regular contributor to the World Bank’s Economic Update and Doing Business in Africa reports and was a founding member of the World Bank’s Blockchain Lab. He also currently serves on the Council of the “Digital Collective Africa” group of African investors who are advancing the African VC landscape through progressive laws, standardised investment methodologies and public/private sector collaboration.
Rajiv Daya has lived in South Africa, Kenya and the UK, where he obtained an MBA from Oxford University and was recently chosen by the Mail & Guardian as one of the top 200 young South Africans of 2020.
