Biography

John Ffooks is the founding partner of John W Ffooks & Co. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in the UK and qualified with leading international firm Clifford Chance as an English Solicitor. John Ffooks has over 25 years of experience acting for listed companies in Canada, Australia, UK, and US with assets across Africa as well as the financial institutions which provide their finance. Before moving to Madagascar, John Ffooks was the sole advisor on English law to a South African investment bank on its infrastructure portfolio in the sub-Saharan region.
John Ffooks has lived and worked in Madagascar for almost thirty years. He has been practising as a lawyer in Madagascar for over twenty years and was resident for ten years from 2001. He is familiar with the specific legal and business cultures across Francophone Africa (including OHADA countries and Madagascar) and how this translates into the needs of listed clients in Common Law jurisdictions. John has ventured far off the beaten track across Africa, including as a lawyer, and has vast experience in communicating complex legal points to people unfamiliar with the world of international law and commerce. Besides English, John speaks and writes fluent French.
