Biography

A seasoned speaker and moderator, Ian Bessarabia has more than 20 year’s experience in developing, enhancing and supporting Capital Markets across Sub Sahara Africa. Begining his career in the mid 90’s in mid-1990’s, Ian joined a top 5 Investment Management company in South Africa and was key in the market’s success of dematerialisation and automation of transaction settlements under Strate. Followed by a 10-year career at SWIFT, the financial messaging network, Ian was instrumental and directly involved in the evolution of the Nigerian high-value payment system as well as the integration of the Fixed Income trading and settlement market in Ghana and the Regional Payments integration project in the 4 countries of the West Africa Monetary Zone (WAMZ). In his current role, Ian focuses his specialist skills on Fixed Income and FX markets by consulting and working with the market stakeholders to lay the groundwork to implement enabling technology platforms to financial institutions to manage real-time information flows, increase efficiency and reduce risk.
