Biography

Francisco Machado leads our investment and portfolio teams, managing five assets across multiple geographies in a variety of sectors. He recently developed our strategic review and positioning, as well as implementing our refined investment strategy. Francisco Machado is skilled in identifying overlooked opportunities to solve critical challenges associated with the provision of water, food, healthcare, and sustainable infrastructure in growth markets.

In response to the impact of COVID-19, Francisco Machado co-led the creation of a credit fund that focuses on sustaining SMEs with high growth potential in sub-Saharan Africa. In less than 12 months, this fund completed 2 deals worth $2M, with a further $10M in the pipeline.

Prior to joining Vital Capital, Francisco Machado spent 4 years at the CDC Group, a development finance institution based in London. As part of the Africa Funds Team, Francisco sourced, structured, evaluated and monitored several Africa-focused equity transactions totaling over $750 million. Before CDC Group, Francisco Machado was at Mitsui & Co, in the Africa Investment Team.

Francisco Machado graduated from the Nova School of Business & Economics with a BSc in Management and went on to secure an MSc in International Management from the IE Business School.
