Biography

Barthout van Slingelandt is Managing Partner at XSML Capital. His responsibilities include overseeing XSML’s portfolio of investments and fund raising. Barthout has over 25 years of experience in investing, corporate restructuring and general management, in emerging markets, Europe and the US. In the last 12+ years, his focus has been on building XSML’s business in debt & equity investing and value creation in Central and East Africa. Previously, he held senior management positions in Citibank’s EMEA consumer business, including the restructuring and turnaround of an SME lending outfit in Poland and heading a pan-European distribution and service operation. At Alvarez & Marsal (corporate turnarounds), he was instrumental in restructurings, carve-outs and sales of businesses in manufacturing and telecoms and starting up A&Ms Benelux offices. Barthout started his career with Arthur D Little (strategy consulting) and Rabobank International (legal & work-outs). Barthout holds a Master’s in Law from Leiden University and an MBA from Columbia Business School where he was a NAF/Fulbright fellow.
