FINCA International, All Africa
Rupert Scofield is the President, CEO and Co-Founder of FINCA International, author of “The Social Entrepreneur’s Handbook,” presenter of The Social Enterprise Podcast (www.socentpodcast.org), and a regular contributor to articles published on Forbes.
A pioneer in microfinance and life-long social entrepreneur, Mr. Scofield leads FINCA International, the majority-owner of 20-community-based microfinance institutions and banks across Africa, Eurasia, Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia. Through this global network—known as FINCA Impact Finance—FINCA International is enabling access to responsible and innovative financial services for those living at the bottom of the pyramid.
After more than two decades of growing and scaling a global microfinance network, Mr. Scofield is leading FINCA International on the next leg of its journey: supporting the rise of social enterprises delivering basic service and financial innovation. Combined, FINCA International’s work in microfinance and social enterprise helps low-income families achieve a better standard of living.
Beyond his leadership role in FINCA International, Mr. Scofield serves on the boards of FINCA Impact Finance, FINCA Afghanistan, FINCA Pakistan, FINCA Canada and FINCA UK. After leading the Partnership for Responsible Financial Inclusion (formerly the Microfinance CEO Working Group) for seven years, Mr. Scofield now serves as its Chair Emeritus.
Mr. Scofield travels around the world meeting with microfinance clients, social entrepreneurs, and commercial and philanthropic investors. He frequently serves as a keynote speaker on the topics of microfinance, social enterprise and impact investing.
Mr. Scofield proudly holds M.A. degrees in agricultural economics and public administration from the University of Wisconsin, and a B.A. from Brown University. He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the University of Roehampton in London.
