Investment One Financial Services, Nigeria
Nicholas Nyamali is the Group Managing Director and Founder of Investment One Financial Services Limited (formerly GTB Asset Management).
Nicholas has over 25 years’ experience working in banking, management consultancy and investment management in Europe and Africa.
Returning to Nigeria after a successful stint in McKinsey & Co, London, he founded Investment One (then called GTB Asset Management) in partnership with Guaranty Trust Bank in 2008. Despite the economic headwinds with the global financial crises in 2007 and the collapse of the Nigerian equity market in 2008, he successfully navigated the new company to survive the crises. Still trying to stabilize, the company had to face a new headwind with the 2010 reform of the Nigerian banking sector that led to the divestment of GTBank from the company in 2011.
Nicholas led a management buyout of the company, rebranded it as Investment One and proceeded to expand the Group businesses by acquisition and organic growth from the initial asset management and stock broking businesses to include businesses in mutual funds and pension funds management, investment banking, venture capital/private equity, project finance and real estate.
Nicholas holds a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M) and Economics (MSc) as well as an MBA from the London Business School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators, UK and Nigeria; as well as a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment UK.
Prior to setting up Investment One, Nicholas has banking experience with Guaranty Trust Bank, Nigeria and Barclays Capital, UK. He also has consultancy experience working with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Mckinsey & Company.
He has steered Investment One to great heights, as the company has recorded tremendous growth and success over the years.
His areas of expertise are Law, Investment Management, Investment Banking, Strategy and International Business. He currently serves as a member of the Technical Committee of the National Council on Privatization of Nigeria, and also consultant to the Federal government on Economic Matters.
Nicholas has a passion for helping young professionals; he has regular mentoring programmes for young professionals steering them in the right direction of their chosen careers and helping them grow into future industry leaders. He is a strong believer in the future of Africa and the potential in African youths.
He believes that tenacity (Not giving up), adaptability (Ability to adapt to changing environmental policies) and foresight (Long term strategic vision/planning) are critical traits to succeed in business in Africa.
