Mr. Khalil El Bawab joined MCI on November 2018 as Co-CEO Managing Director to spear head the organization into its transformation as the Egypt’s newly public Full Fledged Investement Bank. In MCI’s first year of transformation, Asset Management AUMs jumped by almost 3 folds from EGP 1.2 Bln to EGP 3.4 Bln, the company is closing two private equity funds for EGP 2.5 Bln, started its Fixed Income Brokerage operations, and studying going into ventures in Equity Brokerage, Research & Equity Capital Markets. Last but not least, is the addition of the Debt Capital Market Advisory service with at least four deals under closing.
Prior to that, he headed the Fixed Income Division at EFG-Hermes Asset Management. He was the Managing Director and a key member of the Investment Committee overseeing the Fixed Income Investment Team.
During his reign at EFG-Hermes, the AUMs of the Fixed Income mandates grew more than three folds reaching EGP 18bn (currently EGP 8bn). Mr. El Bawab used to manages a variety of Money Market, Fixed Income, Balanced, and Capital protected funds. Since joining the firm in 2007, EFG Hermes Asset Management has consistently outperformed market peers in the Egyptian market and has received several awards and distinctions from major local and international prominent institutions including Zawya, Egyptian Investment Management Association, and MENA Fund Manager Awards marking its robust performance. Mr. El Bawab was also managing a variety of discretionary portfolios for some of the region’s premiere banks, institutions, and high-net-worth individuals.
In 2014 he was a founding member & Board member of the first Egyptian Fixed Income Association a newly founded association that includes top premier fixed income instruments issuers and investors and all related stakeholders related to this business. Over & above board memberships in many other organizations like the Egyptian Investment Management Association, and membdership in Egyptian Capital Markets Associations, Egyptian Private Equity Association.
Prior to joining EFG-Hermes Asset Management; Mr. El Bawab held the position of the Assistant Chief Dealer at Arab Bank PLC Treasury & Capital Markets Department; where he worked since 1998.
Mr. El Bawab is also a freelance lecturer in Managerial Finance; Corporate Finance, Fixed Income, Treasury Products, & Risk management.
Mr. El Bawab is a CPM and pursued his MBA in Banking and Finance from Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands in 2008 with distinction and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration; Finance Concentration with high honors from the American University in Cairo in 1998.
