Imtiaz Khan has about 30 years’ experience in private equity, financial markets investment corporate finance advisory and audit in about 20 emerging and developed countries across four continents.

He currently manages Cassia Capital Partners, a private equity investment company which he co-founded. Cassia focuses on private equity investment across the broader East African region and is funded by the FirstRand Group of South Africa, one of Africa’s largest financial services groups.

In addition to participating on the boards of various Cassia investee companies, Imtiaz also sits on the board of Standard Chartered Bank in Kenya and chairs its board credit, risk and audit committees. Prior to this, he served for nine years on the board of the Centum Investment Company, which is listed in both Kenya and Uganda as East Africa’s largest listed investment company.

Imtiaz started his career with PwC in Nairobi, Kenya in audit, and in London, UK in PwC’s corporate finance practice. He went on to join the International Finance Corporation in Washington DC, USA as part of the global financial markets team investing in financial sector business across the globe, before returning to Kenya to co-found Cassia Capital Partners.

He holds an MBA with distinction from London Business School and a BCom from the University of Nairobi. He did his CPA (Kenya) examinations to qualify as an accountant at Strathmore University and was the top student in Kenya. He has also undertaken executive training at Harvard Business School in Private Equity and Venture Capital.

Imtiaz is part of the faculty teaching on the Stanford SEED program in East Africa led by the Graduate Business School of Stanford University as well as on the Private Equity and Venture Capital course at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. In his spare time, he volunteers as a mentor for Endeavor, one of the world’s leading high-impact entrepreneurship support networks.

Imtiaz was born and brought up in Kenya and lives with his family in Nairobi.
