Biography

Ziyaad joined Fieldstone in May 2016 with 15 years of experience in Infrastructure, Energy and Mining with a focus in project finance in Africa. Having joined from Standard Bank, where he was Head of the Infrastructure Sector within Client Coverage, Ziyaad brings his extensive experience in Public Private Partnerships (PPP), renewable energy, export finance and mining corporate and project finance.

Ziyaad was responsible for deal origination, advising and arranging of related limited/non recourse and structured debt products mainly in Africa and other emerging markets. In the Energy sector he was involved in the arranging for more than ZAR 30 billion of underwritten debt in the first two bidding rounds of the South African governments Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Program (REIPPP).

Within the Infrastructure sector, Ziyaad advised and arranged funding for the first Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) concession for roads, bridges and other infrastructure in Lagos, Nigeria. This deal won the Euromoney African PPP Deal of the Year 2009. He also advised on the first private sector toll road in Nairobi, Kenya. Advised and arranged funding, including the empowerment funding for the empowerment shareholders, for the Department of Trade & Industry’s ZAR500m accommodation PPP. This project won the Project Finance Magazine “African PPP Deal of the Year 2003”. Ziyaad led the arranging of the funding for the Department of Education’s head office accommodation PPP, the Department of Rural Development and Land Affairs and for the Tshwane Munitoria Head Office.

His port related experience includes advising and arranging funding for the Deal of the Year 2007 Shariah compliant 3rd container terminal in the Jeddah Islamic Port, Saudi Arabia. He arranged financing for the capital dredging of the Maputo Port on a project finance basis and also arranged financing for the USD97 million Beitbridge Border Port project in Zimbabwe.

He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa).
