Biography

Tony Pelz is the Director of Shuraako. Under Tony’s leadership, Shuraako successfully launched two pioneering, first of their kind transactions, including the $8 million (on first close) Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund, the first impact fund in the Somali region backed by major international DFI investors, and the Somali Credit Guarantee Scheme, the first credit guarantee in the Somali region, backed by a major international donor with participation of nearly all Somali banking institutions. Before he joined Shuraako, Tony was a distressed debt trader on ABN AMRO Bank NV’s proprietary trading desk based in Amsterdam. Prior to proprietary trading, he worked with several global investment banks including Credit Suisse, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and ABN AMRO Bank NV in roles ranging from corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions to credit, debt advisory and corporate development. He has substantial international work experience in Africa, Asia, the U.S., Europe and Latin America and was based in New York City, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro and Amsterdam. Tony is also an expert options trader and has written five books on the subject.
