Biography

Suresh Samuel is Head of Capital Markets for Tala, the leading mobile technology and data science company committed to financial inclusion globally. More than 1.3 million people have borrowed through Tala’s smartphone app, which provides instant credit scoring, lending, and other personalized financial services in emerging markets. At Tala, Mr. Samuel is responsible for structuring and executing structured debt facilities to support Tala’s rapid growth globally.

Mr. Samuel was previously Managing Director for Africa at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). At OPIC, he led the opening of an East Africa representative office and was responsible for managing business development activities for project and corporate finance, political risk insurance and private equity investments. Prior to relocating to Nairobi, Mr. Samuel worked in OPIC’s Structured Finance department where he was responsible for the execution of over $1 billion of emerging market transactions in the energy, infrastructure, healthcare, banking, and agribusiness sectors. Mr. Samuel is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
