Biography

Jasmine Samantar has seen the impact lack of electrification has in off-grid locations, during time spent in sub-Saharan Africa. She aspires to utilize Samawat Energy to end the rural-urban energy fault line. Before founding Samawat Energy, Jasmine acted as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Somalia for Investment Promotion. She previously served as Policy Advisor at the Permanent Mission of Somalia to the United Nations. It was at the UN that she immersed herself in the SDGs and acquired a passion for renewable energy. She received an MSc in Comparative Politics and Political Economy (focus: SSA), from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Jasmine also obtained a BA in Public International Law and Politics from Sciences Po Paris.
