Biography

“Ermias is the CEO of FSD Ethiopia, leading the establishment of the FSD Ethiopia office and developing the strategic interventions needed to develop the financial sector in Ethiopia, working alongside the regulators, the private sector, and key development partners. Prior to that, Ermias held the position of Advisory Partner at Grant Thornton Ethiopia and CEO at the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX). Ermias is currently serving as a board chairman and was part of an establishment that founded Zemen Bank. He served in board directorships for various organizations including the Accounting Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE), the American Chamber in Ethiopia as President, and Advisory Board Member of UNDP’s IFL (Innovative Finance Lab) in Addis Ababa.

Ermias studied at the University of Manchester in the UK, receiving his Master’s Degree in International Business from the Manchester Business School and a Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Computation at UMIST.

Ermias is passionate about business and finance in Ethiopia and the African development narrative in general. To that end, he has spoken on many panels and investment conferences over the past 15 years including at the Milken Institute Global Conference – a major Think-Tank in the US.”
