Biography

Dave van Niekerk is a distinguished global fintech leader and entrepreneur, renowned for his transformative impact on financial services across Africa. As the founder and CEO of MyBucks, a German fintech firm listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Dave has been pivotal in addressing the limitations of traditional banking and advancing financial inclusion across the continent.

With over 20 years of extensive experience in finance, banking, credit, and executive management, Dave’s career is marked by his innovative approach and visionary leadership. He has been a driving force behind several groundbreaking business models that aim to make financial services accessible to underserved populations. His work has earned him recognition as “South Africa’s Branson” by Business Day newspaper, underscoring his status as a leading figure in the fintech space.

Dave’s journey began at Unity Financial Services in 1997, where he initially worked in the credit industry and later became a shareholder and Operational Director. Following a merger with King & Altfin, which formed African Bank, Dave held senior management roles until 2001. He then founded Blue Financial Services, a publicly traded company, and served as CEO until 2010. In 2012, he established MyBucks, which operates across 13 countries in Africa, Europe, and Australia.

Under his leadership, MyBucks has become a prominent player in the fintech sector, offering a range of services including lending, insurance, and mobile banking. Dave’s commitment to innovation and financial inclusion is further demonstrated by his creation of the Numeral Group of Companies in 2021, encompassing Aluma Capital, Fintegrate, CryoSave, LNDR, LNDR Business, Sovereign, and We Buy Businesses.
Dave has been an advocate for financial inclusion and investment in Africa, frequently speaking at international fintech events and contributing to discussions on the transformative power of technology in financial services. His achievements have been recognised with several awards for financial inclusion and fintech solutions.
