Biography

Kenyan born Camille Rebelo has a background in the financing mechanisms for the conservation of tropical forests, spanning private and public sectors. She has been at the forefront of the rapidly growing sustainability arena of the land use and forestry sectors for more than a decade and has developed and managed successful operations across her native Africa, as well as in Latin America and Southeast Asia. Camille combines an undergraduate degree from Imperial College London and a Master’s Degree from Yale University’s School of Forestry with outstanding field experience.

Through early involvement with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the Government of Papua New Guinea, Camille pioneered the development of forest based carbon markets and accounting
mechanisms for the climate change contribution of the forestry and land use sectors. She was responsible for the origination and implementation of some of the first accredited forestry projects under both regulated and voluntary carbon markets, and developed climate change strategies for a number of large organizations including World Vision and National Geographic.

A global expert in forest sustainability certification, Camille advised a number of governments, including the Forestry Ministries of the Government of Turkey, Government of Indonesia and others on the acquisition of forest certification, and used this experience to develop a stringent sustainability system within which all EcoPlanet Bamboo operations are developed.
Prior to EcoPlanet Bamboo Camille founded and ran a successful consulting company that was responsible for the implementation of commercial forestry operations for the private sector including initiation of Green Resource’s plantations in Mozambique, as well as the non profit sector, including for the FACE Foundation in Malaysia.

Through her co-founding of EcoPlanet Bamboo Group in 2010 Camille brought a wealth of experience in the management of socially and environmentally responsible forestry operations, from more than 20 countries.

Camille’s work was recently recognized by the Government of Ghana through an invitation to sit on the Ghana Forest Investment Forum and the National Land Degradation Neutrality Target Setting Working Group. Camille’s achievements at EcoPlanet Bamboo and the environmental benefits of these projects were recently recognized when she joined Goran Persson, former Prime Minister of Finland and Felipe Calderon, former President of Mexico on the Global Restoration Council, appointed by the German Ministry of Environment and supported by the World Resources Institute.
