Biography

Brenton has been a principal figure in introducing blockchain technology and cryptocurrency to Africa. He was among the youngest members to join the IFWG, a South African Reserve Bank initiative, to regulate cryptoassets. As one of only 30 industry stakeholders in South Africa, he has actively contributed to the South African National Blockchain Alliance (SANBA) and the Crypto Asset Association of SA (CAASA). In his two-year stint as one of the African leaders for Binance, one of the world’s largest Fintech companies, Brenton was instrumental in launching and growing their presence in Sub-Saharan and East Africa. He was pivotal in developing initiatives like the “Binance Masterclass” series, educating over 100,000 Africans in 2020 alone, and the Binance Smartchain Developer bootcamp, which trained over 1,200 African developers in blockchain application development. With a wide-ranging impact, Brenton has served as a mentor, judge, and guest lecturer at organizations such as SeedStars, CV Labs, UCT Financial Innovation Hub, Global Startup Awards – Africa, and the Paxful-backed Africa Blockchain University. Currently, Brenton is the Principal and Head of Growth at Africa’s premier blockchain-specific early-stage VC fund and accelerator program, with a mission is to help young entrepreneurs in the blockchain and web 3.0 space access capital and mentorship, with a goal to invest in up to 100 African startups over the next three years.
