Pierre-Antoine Balu is PwC Advisory Financial Services leader for North and Francophone Africa. He is currently based in Casablanca which is the Advisory Hub for PwC in the region.
For more than 15 years he has helped major financial services institutions structuring their organization and adopting an effective operating model to execute their business strategy. Since a 2009 he has been working with leading international and continental financial services players aiming at expanding their footprint in Africa and acquiring new clients. Additionally he provided assistance to some African governments in order the restructure their banking sector. Prior to this assignment, Pierre-Antoine led also multiple projects in other emerging regions such as India and South East Asia. He graduated from ESCP Europe.

Per van Swaay joined TCX in 2010 and is responsible for TCX business development in Africa. Prior to TCX, Per worked in African project finance at FMO, the Dutch Development Bank and before moving into banking and development finance, he worked as a corporate lawyer in Holland and the US.

Laura French is a Senior Investment Officer in the Financial Institutions division of the African Development Bank. In this role, she is responsible for client-side deal origination for financial institutions across Africa, including deals targeting SMEs through the AfDB’s Africa SME Program. Prior to joining the AfDB, she worked as a policy advisor and economist for the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in her home country of Canada. She has also worked as a Junior Professional Associate at the World Bank, and as an analyst for various organizations in the private as well as not-for-profit sectors. Laura has degrees in Business, Finance and Environmental Resource Management.

Colin has been an active Africa investor since 1997 working with institutions in equity, commodity, currency and fixed income markets across the continent, as principal, portfolio manager, advisor and research consultant. Currently focusing his interests on developments and opportunities in the power and LNG sectors, he divides his time between bases in Maputo and London.

Mr. Whensu is a chartered banker with over 23 years work and business experience which cut across all spheres of banking (wholesale and Retail), Investment, Treasury and Financial services, Credits Portfolio Management, Operations and Advisory Services.
His first degree is in Banking and Finance; Msc. In Management Sciences from University of Education, Winneba Ghana; SEMP,LLM in Commercial Law from Prestigious University of Huddersfield, U.K and MBA in Strategic Management from Delta State University.

He holds several professional certificates such as Fellow Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB), Associate Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI), Associate Chartered Institute of Arbitration, UK (ACIrb). A Fellow Chartered Economist Institute of Nigeria (FCE), Member ,Energy Institute,UK (MEI); Microfinance Certified Banker of CIBN (MCIB); Fellow, Certified Public Administrator of England and Wales (FCPA).

He has bagged several awards both locally and internationally on Humanitarian, Academic, Religion and host of others.

Currently, he holds the following positions: MD/CEO, Global Initiative Microfinance Bank Limited, Chairman, Joseph Whensu Hope Alive Foundation (JOWHAF), Managing Partner/Chief Consultant, Foretrade Consult Ltd (Tax & Management Consultants), Former Chairman, National Association of Microfinance Banks, Lagos Island Chapter. Former Chairman, National Association of Microfinance Banks, Lagos State Chapter, currently, National President, National Association of Microfinance Banks Nigeria,(NAMB).

Akshay Grover is the Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, ISON Group. He is responsible for capital raising, mergers and acquisitions and strategic initiatives for the ISON group. Mr. Grover has been focused on the TMT sector across Europe, India, Middle East and Africa. He has closed transactions over ~USD 5 billion and led multiple strategic initiatives for several players.

Prior to joining the ISON Group; Akshay was a Director with Ernst & Young India’s Investment banking practice. In addition to his role in M&A, he was responsible for building the firms’ presence in the telecom sector — thought leadership events, industry forums and media interactions. During his previous stints, Akshay was part of the investment team of EIT; the TMT focused sovereign wealth fund of the Government of Dubai with AUM of USD 4Billion. During his tenure, Akshay led EITs investment in some of these companies and held non-executive positions on Board constituted committees for EIT’s investee companies.

Barbara Iyayi is a Vice President at Atlas Mara Ltd, leading and developing the firm’s mergers & acquisitions, investments and corporate development efforts within Africa. Ms. Iyayi joined Atlas Mara several months after it was founded in December 2013, as a London Stock Exchange listed financial institutions platform focused on investing in, operating and managing banks in sub-Sahara Africa. Within one year, Atlas Mara raised $625 million, and Ms. Iyayi led the firm’s investments in BRD Commercial, Rwanda and Union Bank of Nigeria. Prior to Atlas Mara, Ms. Iyayi was a Vice President at J.P. Morgan, advising on mergers & acquisitions, leveraged finance, debt and equity capital market transactions. Ms. Iyayi also worked in financial sponsors and restructuring at UBS Investment Bank. Ms. Iyayi received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Columbia University and an MBA at Harvard Business School.

Miguel is currently leading the launch of Odell Global Investors as CEO. Previously was the global Head of Investment Banking at ATLANTICO, based in Luanda. Before that he was a Junior Partner for 5 years on a Infrastructure Fund investing in Europe and Americas. Was Head of Private Equity at Banif Investment Bank in Portugal and an Associate Director at KPMG Corporate Finance in London (UK) and Lisbon (Portugal). He has an AMP from the Wharton Business School – University of Pennsylvania (USA), a Master in Finance from ISCTE Business School (Portugal) and a Bachelor degree in Management from ISEG University of Lisbon (Portugal). Was raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

Zina Sanyoura is a Senior Investment Manager with Bamboo Finance. She is responsible for sourcing, developing, and managing investments in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. Zina joined the team of the Bamboo Finance in February 2010. Prior to joining Bamboo Finance, Zina spent a year working with the World Economic Forum on a project to develop a framework for corporate governance and corporate social responsibility for a group of leading family-owned Arab-based corporations. Prior to that, Zina worked with the Financial Markets division at the International Finance Corporation in Washington DC where she assumed lead roles in executing a range of debt and equity investment transactions in financial institutions in Central Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa. At the IFC, she also focused on the microfinance sector, when she worked on establishing two global microfinance holding companies, and led multiple equity, debt, and quasi-equity investments in microfinance institutions mainly in North and Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to that, Zina worked in the corporate banking division of Banque Audi SAL, a leading commercial bank based out of Lebanon, serving the Middle East. Zina holds an MBA from IMD in Lausanne, is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and is fluent in Arabic, English, French and conversational Portuguese. She currently serves on the Boards of the following portfolio companies: Bai Tushum Bank (Kyrgyzstan), VITAS Group (Middle East), EFC Zambia, EFC Tanzania, EFC Uganda, and ACEP Niger.
