Peter Hinton

CapitalPlus Exchange

Peter is the Co-Lead, Affordable Education Finance for CapitalPlus Exchange, which is striving to increase the supply of finance to low-cost schools in African urban centres in a manner that also results in improved learning outcomes. Low-cost private schools are educating the majority of primary school-aged children in many developing countries. Peter is also CEO of SDG and a Senior Advisor on the Cambridge Education managed DEEPEN programme in Lagos.

He has over 25 years of commercial experience in the United Kingdom and Africa and has invested in and transformed financial institutions, banks and faitrade organisations in emerging markets. He was formerly CEO of Enterprise Banking Group (Botswana) with operations in Kenya and Rwanda. Prior to that, he was Head of Development for BancABC and with CDC was active in private equity investing in African financial institutions. Previously he worked in strategy and planning for BhS plc and in corporate finance for Mazars.

Peter teaches on the Oxford Impact Investment Programme and MBA programme at Said Business School. He is a board member of Bean There Coffee Company (S Africa), Send a Cow (a UK charity promoting rural livelihoods in 6 African countries) and Hugh Pilkington Charitable Trust (a UK Charity which, along with the Windle Trust runs schools and gives scholarships to African tertiary students).
