Biography

John Wilson is the Manager for FIG new business in East & Southern Africa, based in Nairobi.  He assumed this role in November 2015, having been Head of Banking and Chief Banking Specialist since September 2012. He joined IFC as Principal Banking Specialist focused on CAF in January 2009. John started his career at McKinsey in 1988, based in Stockholm, London, Brussels and St. Petersburg, working primarily on transport infrastructure and manufacturing.  He joined the World Bank as Private Sector Development Specialist in 1993, working on privatization in Ghana, Malawi, Cameroon as well as Russia and Ukraine.  John left the World Bank in 1997 to join Swedbank, a regional universal bank, where he was Head of Export & Project Finance, Structured Finance and Equity Capital Markets. He subsequently became the Head of Strategy and Investor Relations.  He left Swedbank in 2006 to join Kaupthing Bank as Head of Corporate & Investment Banking.  He resigned from Kaupthing in May 2008. John is a graduate of the Swedish Military Academy and holds a Masters in Economics from Upsala University and a Masters of Public Affairs from Princeton University.
